McLaren 1969 M10A Roberts

July 1, 2025 by LEAH

Make: McLaren
Model: M10B
Year: 1970
Chassis: 400-04b
Engine: Chevy 5 litre
Transmission: Hewland DG300

Owner: Barry Davison
Location: Buckinghamshire, UK

Previous Owners: David Prophet, Roy Lane.

Racing History: This chassis number is a duplicate of another 400-04 listed in this Registry. This car was rebuilt by Roy Lane around the tub and mortal remains of Prophet’s original 400/4 which was crashed in practice at Silverstone, and which Roy purchased from him on 3rd October 1970 after the tub was deemed a write-off. The original tub which Lane purchased was repaired at the factory and Lane ran a number of M10s and other McLarens in various forms up the hills, while this chassis languished in his loft. This car most likely was not rebuilt or run as an entity by Lane until recent years when he re-assembled it as a hill climb car. The car has subsequently been rebuilt as a circuit car by Simon Hadfield and currently campaigned in the UK in historic races by Barry Davison.
